IIT JEE Main Paper 2 is a widely known exam among B.Arch & B.Planning Aspirants. Some major changes have been introduced in Exam Pattern this year. JEE Main 2020 will be conducted in 3 papers instead of 2 papers. Now B. Arch and B. Planning will be conducted separately, as Paper 2 and Paper 3, respectively.

 

  • What is Architecture (B.Arch.) Paper 2?

 

The design activity of the architect from the macro-level (urban design, landscape architecture) to the micro-level (construction details and furniture). The practice of the architect, where architecture means offering or rendering professional services in connection with the design and construction of buildings, or built environments.

  • Exam Pattern of B.Arch. JEE?

 

JEE Main Paper II for B. Arch is a 3-hour exam. The applicants will be tested on the basis of their Architecture Aptitude, Mathematics, and Drawing based problems. The Architecture Aptitude section holds most weightage with 50 questions, followed by 25 questions from mathematics and 2 drawing problems.

JEE Main paper 2 is divided into three sections, Part- 1 as Mathematics, Part-2 as General Aptitude and Part-3 as Drawing/Planning depending upon the students choices for B.Arch/B.Plan. Part 1 and Part 2 are common for students of both B.Arch and B.Plan. Part 3 contains questions from drawing for B.Arch students while for B.Plan students, Part-3 will have general questions from planning.

Architecture colleges accepting the JEE Scores, consider opening & closing ranks of the candidates as eligibility criteria to get admission in their institute. In B.Arch all best institutes across India generally get all their seat filled at All India Rank around 3000.              Architecture Aptitude

  1. General Awareness regarding famous National and International Architects, Buildings, UNESCO Heritage Sites, Architecture Materials. Basics about Building Structures, Colour Texture, Different Building Forms, Indian Geography,  Objects, Texture related to Architecture and build-environment and etc.

  2. Visualizing 3-dimensional objects from 2-dimensional drawings and vice versa. Visualizing different sides of three-dimensional objects. Analytical Reasoning, Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical & Verbal). 

  3. Will assess general knowledge, and ability to think in new situations. Reasoning would be asked in various topics that assess candidates on basic concepts in mathematics, physics and geometry, language and interpretation, elements and principles of design, aesthetic sensitivity, colour theory, lateral thinking and logical reasoning, visual perception and cognition, graphics and imagery, building anatomy and architectural vocabulary..

            Mathematics

  1. Sets, relations and functions, Complex numbers and quadratic equations, Matrices and determinants, Permutations and combinations, Mathematical induction, Binomial theorem and its simple applications.

  2. Sequences and series, Limit, continuity and differentiability, Integral calculus, Differential equations, Co-ordinate geometry and etc.

  3. Vector algebra, Statistics and probability, Trigonometry and Mathematical reasoning

 

          Drawing

  1. Designing and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns through pencil.

  2. Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms.

  3. Sketching of scenes and activities from memory of urbanscape (public space, street scenes, monuments, market, festivals, recreational spaces, etc.), landscape (riverfronts, plants, jungles, trees, etc.) and rural life.

Exam Mode​

NTA conduct JEE Paper 2 partially online & offline. Part A, Maths & Aptitude are assessed on online mode whereas, Part B Drawing in offline mode

Type of Questions

There will be 50 MCQ questions in Aptitude section followed by 30 question of Mathematics in MCQ & NAT format. Drawing section will comprise of 2 Questions

Maximum & Minimum Marks

Overall JEE Paper 2 exam will be of 400 Marks, whereas NTA publish results in percentile format

Marks per Questions

For every correct answers in MCQ's and NAT section,  marks will be alloted, whereas -1 will be deducted for wrong answer. However, there won't be negetive marking for NAT 

Duration of Exam

Overall duration of exam will be of 180 mins i.e. 3 hrs. No time limit for individual questions

Language of Exam Paper

The medium of JEE Paper 2 exam will be in English, Hindi & Gujrati language only.

Eligibility for IIT JEE PAPER 2 (B.Arch)

1.

The eligibility for admission to 1st year of 5-year B.Arch. Degree program for the academic session 2021- 2022 shall be as per CoA (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 2020 or as may be amended by the Central Government.

2.

Candidates need to pass 10+2 scheme of examination with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as a mandatory subjects, or 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as a mandatory subject.

3.

No direct lateral admission is allowed at any year/semester/stage of B.Arch. course based on any qualification.

4.

As per Council of Architecture and National Testing Agency (NTA), qualifying IIT JEE Paper 2 B.Arch is mandatory for seeking admission in B.Arch program across SPA's, NIT's and other CFTI's

  • Are Mathematics and Drawing included in NATA syllabus?
    No. In NATA 2021, Drawing section won't be there at all. Where as Mathematics will be ask. NATA 2021 will be conducted as a single section examination. General knowledge of the candidates related to mathematics and drawing may be assessed in the aptitude section only.
  • Is there will be Negative marking in NATA ?
    No, there is no negative marking in NATA 2021 exam
  • Which entrance exams are important to qualify to be an Architect in India?
    As per Council of Architecture (COA) India, to be an Architect, you need to qualify either JEE Paper 2 or NATA after class 12th. Without qualifying these examination, admission to B.Arch is not at all possible.
  • How many attempts are there for NATA ? Is it necessary to appear for both attempts?
    There are two attemps of NATA in 2021. First on 10th April 2021 and Second on 12th June 2021. A candidate can appear for either one or both. The highest of both scores will be considered for admission into B.Arch college.
  • What is the validity of NATA scorecard?
    NATA 2021 score shall be valid only for admission in the academic session 2021- 2022
  • What is the key difference between JEE Paper 2 and NATA?
    JEE Paper 2 is for getting admission in B.Arch in most prestigious central government colleges across India such as SPA's, NIT's & CFTI's, whereas NATA is an entrance examination for pursuing B.Architecture from State Government Architecture Colleges and Private Institutes across India.
  • How students can register for NATA?
    Students who are aspiring to appear in NATA entrance exam can visit NATA offical website at www.nata.in and make themself register by due process stated. The registration for NATA 2021 began for Phase 1 & 2 on March 05, and the entrance exam is scheduled to be conducted on April 10 & June 12 respectively.
  • What is the eligiblity for NATA registration?
    Candidate who have qualifiedtheir 10+2 examinaion with Mathematics, Pgysics & Chemistry as a compulsory subject or Diploma Holders who have passed the 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as a compulsory subject. Candidates must be 17 years old minimum as on 31st January of the last year.
  • Does 12th Percentage matter in Nata?
    As per latest notifications, Government has scraped the mandatory requirements of minimum 50% marks in 10+2 or 10+3 qualifying examination. In the year 2021, paasing 10+2 or 10+3 qualifying examination will make you eligible for NATA but 10+2 or 10+3 marks will matter in getting into colleges with NATA score.
  • Does IIT accept NATA score?
    No, B.Arch in IIT's can only be pursue by sucessfuly qualifying JEE Advance and Architecture Aptitude Test. NATA scores are not taken into account for admission in B.Arch program in IIT's.
